Things that are safer to buy new

When unknown history matters.

4 min read

Some items are hard to check, can hide damage or have changed safety standards.

Usually buy new

  • Car seats: you can't see crash damage, and they expire
  • Bike and sports helmets: damage can be invisible
  • Mattresses and pillows: hygiene and bed bugs
  • Cribs made before mid-2011, which may not meet current federal safety standards
