Check
- Rock it gently: it shouldn't wobble or creak
- Open every drawer and door
- Look at joints: dovetails and screws beat staples
- Smell it: smoke and mildew are hard to remove
- Check seams, corners and undersides for signs of bed bugs
- Measure it, and your doorway
