Most marketplace scams follow a few patterns.
Warning signs
- The seller wants payment before you see the item
- They ask for gift cards, wire transfers or crypto
- They ask you to send a verification code
- A buyer overpays and asks for a refund of the difference
- The price is much lower than similar items
If it happens
Report it to the marketplace and at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Contact your bank right away if you paid.
